Race spotlight

It’s happening -  HYROX returns for a second edition in Finland! With Helsinki hosting its first-ever HYROX, a brand-new northern chapter of fitness racing begins. Athletes from across Europe and beyond will converge to run, row, push, and pull through the signature workout race inside the modern halls of Messukeskus Helsinki. The atmosphere promises to be electric, with first-timers and elites alike chasing that unforgettable finish-line moment.

But the race is just the start. Helsinki offers athletes and their crews a chance to extend their stay into a true race-cation. From its vibrant design culture and seaside saunas to crisp Nordic spring air, the city balances high-energy urban life with restorative recovery experiences. Compete, then celebrate your achievement with world-class dining, waterfront strolls, and authentic Finnish wellness rituals.

Racecation Review

A HYROX weekend in Helsinki is about more than the race. Athletes can immerse themselves in Nordic culture—relaxing in a traditional Finnish sauna, exploring modern architecture, or fuelling up on local Nordic cuisine. The city’s clean air, accessible green spaces, and athlete-friendly recovery experiences make it an inspiring and restorative destination. Extend your stay and let the northern light and cool Baltic breeze recharge you after crossing the finish line.

Hotels

Use the map to compare and book hotels near the HYROX Helsinki venue — less travel, more focus on race day.

For Messukeskus Helsinki, stay in Pasila / Tripla / Expo Centre if race-day convenience is the priority. This is the cleanest athlete setup because the venue, station, hotels, food options, and transport links are all clustered close together.

Recommended nearby hotels:

Premium

  • VALO Hotel & Work Helsinki — Higher-comfort option around 2 km from the Messukeskus area, with rooftop wellness facilities including saunas and ice bath noted in hotel listings. Better as a short taxi/public transport option rather than a pure walk.
  • Crowne Plaza Helsinki by IHG — Premium city-side option with swimming pool mentioned in guest listings, but not venue-adjacent. Better if comfort matters more than being closest to Messukeskus.

Intermediate

  • Holiday Inn Helsinki - Expo by IHG — The strongest venue-adjacent choice, connected to Messukeskus and listed as 0.04 km from the venue. Includes fitness centre / top-floor gym. Likely walkable to the venue.
  • Original Sokos Hotel Tripla — Practical Pasila option near Mall of Tripla and around 0.5–0.6 km from Messukeskus. Good for food, transport, and race-week convenience. Likely walkable to the venue.

Budget / Practical

  • Scandic Pasila — Practical Pasila-side option, listed within a 15-minute walk of Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre and Mall of Tripla. Good for athletes prioritising venue access without going premium.
  • The Folks Hotel Konepaja — Practical nearby option around 1.1 km from Messukeskus. Check walking route before booking, especially with race bags or winter weather.

Athlete booking advice:

For Helsinki, Holiday Inn Helsinki - Expo should be the first hotel athletes check because it is directly connected to the venue. If it is full or expensive, widen the search to Tripla / Pasila before looking at central Helsinki.

Visa guide

  • EU/EEA/Swiss nationals: No visa required
  • US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand citizens: Visa-free entry for up to 90 days within Schengen Area
  • Other nationalities: Check Schengen visa requirements

Cost Insights

Helsinki offers Scandinavian efficiency and charm, but with price levels on the higher side compared to many HYROX host cities. Expect modern infrastructure, high-quality food, and reliable public transport—but at a premium compared to Southern or Eastern Europe.

  • Affordability Rating: €€€–€€€€
  • Accommodation: €100–250 per night for mid-range hotels near the city centre or venue
  • Dining: €15–25 for casual meals, €40–60+ for full-service restaurants
  • Transport: €3–4 for local tram/metro tickets, €40–50 for airport taxis

Public transport guide

Helsinki’s public transport system (trams, metro, commuter trains) is efficient and athlete-friendly. The venue is directly connected via Pasila Station, just one stop from Central Helsinki. Athletes with gear can easily use trains or hop into a 10-minute taxi from the city centre. Tickets are best purchased through the HSL app; day passes offer value and eliminate queues.

Recovery Guide

Helsinki shines as a recovery destination thanks to its iconic sauna culture. Post-race, athletes can head to Löyly, a modern seaside sauna complex offering hot/cold contrast therapy, or visit Allas Sea Pool for outdoor pools and Baltic dips.

For spa-style recovery, Flamingo Spa near the airport provides hydrotherapy, massages, and saunas under one roof. Athletes seeking cutting-edge treatments can find cryotherapy and compression therapy at specialised sports clinics in the city. Green recovery is also abundant—runners can cool down with light mobility in Central Park (Keskuspuisto), a massive urban forest just minutes from the city centre.
