Relay Briefing:

• CrossFit Lyon – HYROX-style set-up, sleds, SkiErgs, rowers. Known for its competitive community and English-friendly coaches. ~15 min from venue.
• CrossFit Gerland – Functional training gym with strong endurance focus and recovery facilities.
• Fitlane Lyon – Full-service fitness club with open gym, sauna, and modern cardio/strength kit. Great for drop-ins.

Lyon is famous for its culinary tradition and is known as France’s gastronomic capital. Athletes will find plenty of fuel options:

• Clean Eats: Yummy Lyon – Fresh bowls, wraps, and smoothies, all quick and athlete-friendly.
• Local Flavour: Bouchon Les Lyonnais – Traditional Lyonnais cuisine (opt for lighter dishes like fish quenelles pre-race).
• Quick Bite: Ninkasi – A local chain blending healthy street food, burgers, and a social vibe; great for teams.

• Outdoor: Parc de la Tête d’Or – one of Europe’s largest urban parks, perfect for light runs, stretching, or meditation by the lake.
• Spa/Wellness: Calicéo Spa Lyon – thermal pools, saunas, hammams, hydrotherapy ideal for post-race recovery.
• Cultural Recovery: Traditional French hammams and spa rituals available in the city.
• Sports Recovery: Cryo Evolution – modern cryotherapy and compression therapy hub.
• Yoga & Mobility: Yoga Room Lyon – drop-in classes for gentle stretching post-race.

Lyon’s public transport is efficient and athlete-friendly:

• Metro, tram, and bus system run on TCL network.
• From city centre, Tram T5 gets you to Eurexpo in ~25 minutes.
• A 24-hour pass (€6) or 3-day pass (€15) is the most cost-effective.
• Taxis and rideshares are reliable for gear-heavy travel days.

EU athletes do not need a visa. Travelers from many countries (including USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea) can enter France visa-free for up to 90 days. Others may require a Schengen visa.

Lyon offers a balanced cost profile compared to other European HYROX host cities. It’s more affordable than Paris or London, but slightly pricier than cities in Eastern Europe.

• Rating: €€–€€€

• Accommodation: €90–€250 per night for mid-range to premium hotels

• Dining: €12–€20 casual, €25–€50 for a sit-down meal; Michelin-starred options from €100+

• Transport: €2 for metro/tram single ticket; €15–€20 daily unlimited passes

Note: Lyon is one of France’s top tourist cities and can get extremely crowded in July and August when European summer holidays peak. That brings higher hotel prices, busier restaurants, and longer queues at cultural attractions.

Because HYROX Lyon takes place in May, athletes will enjoy the city before that summer chaos arrives. The timing means:

• Better hotel availability and lower rates than in peak season.
• Milder climate — not the hot, humid conditions of July.
• Easier access to restaurants, transport, and attractions without major tourist congestion.
