Relay Briefing:

Madrid’s fitness scene is fiery, passionate, and social — a perfect match for HYROX. Expect late-night training sessions, high-energy group classes, and athletes who thrive on community. Functional training has exploded across the city, with CrossFit boxes and boutique gyms full of energy year-round.

• CrossFit Singular Box – Competitive vibe, sled prep, and plenty of conditioning space.
• Metropolitan Abascal – Stylish health club with functional rigs, cardio machines, and recovery amenities.
• F45 Chamberí – Popular expat-friendly hybrid training hub with a strong HYROX following.

Spanish athletes train with flair. Music is loud, intensity is high, and recovery often involves tapas and late-night socializing.

Madrid’s culinary scene is vibrant and varied, offering athletes plenty of fuel options post-race. Close to IFEMA, you’ll find traditional tapas bars serving favorites like jamón ibérico, patatas bravas, and calamari sandwiches, all great for sharing and savoring authentic Spanish flavors. For a quick yet healthy bite, check out local cafés offering tortilla española and fresh salads, with vegetarian and gluten-free choices increasingly common. If you want to indulge, the nearby neighborhoods of Chueca and Malasaña feature modern eateries blending innovation with classic Spanish dishes. Don’t miss a sweet finish with churros dipped in thick hot chocolate—perfect for a rewarding treat after a tough race.

After the intense competition at HYROX Madrid, athletes can find excellent recovery and relaxation options close to IFEMA. The nearby Aire Ancient Baths offers a luxurious thermal spa experience inspired by Roman traditions, featuring warm pools, steam rooms, and massages designed to ease muscle tension and accelerate recovery.

For a modern wellness boost, Mandalay Wellness Center provides tailored sports massages, cryotherapy, and infrared saunas, helping racers reduce inflammation and recharge efficiently after race day.

Outdoor recovery is also a great option at Retiro Park, where gentle strolls, light stretching, or mindful breathing sessions amid beautiful gardens and sculptures offer a refreshing way to unwind.

Madrid supports HYROX athletes with a blend of historic charm, modern wellness, and urban energy—perfect for winding down and preparing for your next challenge.

Madrid’s Metro is one of the best in Europe — fast, reliable, and inexpensive (~€1.50 per trip). From Barajas Airport (MAD), Line 8 connects you to the city center in ~25 minutes. Ubers and taxis are abundant for easy access on race day.

As part of the Schengen Area, most non-EU athletes (including those from Australia, Canada, the US, UK, etc.) may enter Spain visa-free for up to 90 days. Confirm current rules at your embassy or consulate before traveling.

Madrid strikes an ideal balance for budget-conscious travelers and those seeking luxury. High-quality tapas bars, late-night churro cafés, and traditional Spanish taverns offer flavorful meals for under €15. Public transport is top-notch and inexpensive, with a single metro ride costing just €1.50–2.00. Budget hotels and Airbnb options are widely available, especially outside the city center, though prices can rise near Gran Vía or during major events. Free museum hours, open-air markets, and countless plazas make Madrid affordable and culturally rich for any visitor.
