Mexico City is a vibrant food lover’s paradise with options that energize and satisfy every athlete’s palate. Near Centro Citibanamex, El Cardenal offers classic Mexican breakfasts with fresh, wholesome ingredients, perfect for a pre-race fuel-up. For a quick, nutritious bite, Panadería Rosetta in Roma serves artisanal breads and gluten-free treats alongside quality coffee. If you crave authentic street food, try Taquería Los Cocuyos in the historic center for famous tacos al pastor and other flavorful delights. For a modern, health-conscious option, Forever Vegano offers plant-based bowls and smoothies ideal for post-race recovery. The city’s culinary diversity and affordability mean you can enjoy bold flavors and nutritious meals without stretching your budget.

After the challenge of racing at high altitude in Mexico City, recovery is key—and athletes have several excellent options near Centro Citibanamex. Many upscale hotels nearby, such as the JW Marriott and Hyatt Regency Polanco, offer spa facilities featuring massages, hydrotherapy pools, and steam rooms to soothe sore muscles and aid in recovery.

For a unique local experience, the nearby Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony—a traditional Mexican ritual involving herbal steam baths—is available at wellness centers throughout the city and is renowned for detoxifying the body and rejuvenating energy after intense physical exertion.

Additionally, the Chapultepec Forest offers expansive green spaces ideal for gentle recovery walks, light stretching, or mindfulness practices amid tranquil nature within the bustling metropolis. With a blend of modern spa amenities and cultural healing traditions, Mexico City supports athletes in recovering body and mind for peak performance.

The Metro here is extensive, cheap (~$0.30 per ride), and colorful — but it’s also crowded, especially at peak times. Many athletes opt for safer, more direct rides with Uber or DiDi, both of which are affordable compared to Europe or the U.S. From Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX), the city center and most HYROX-linked gyms are about 30–40 minutes away depending on traffic.

Mexico allows many nationalities to enter visa-free for tourism, while others need a visitor visa. Australian and New Zealand passport holders, for example, do not need a tourist visa for stays of up to 180 days, but athletes should check requirements for their own passport before booking.

Mexico City is one of the most budget-friendly destinations on the HYROX calendar. Centrally located hotels range from $40–100 USD per night, with excellent quality at every price point. Street food and local restaurants serve flavorful meals for $5–10, while upscale dining rarely exceeds $30. The metro is extensive and costs just a few cents per ride. Cultural attractions—like museums, markets, and historical landmarks—are often free or very inexpensive. Mexico City offers top-tier value, allowing athletes to enjoy world-class culture, cuisine, and competition on a lean budget.
