Relay Briefing: To Be Announced

Ottawa blends Canadian staples with global influences. Athletes can find both hearty carb-loading meals and clean nutrition easily.

• Pure Kitchen – vegetarian/vegan-friendly spot with smoothies, protein bowls, and fast service.

• Elgin Street Diner – classic Canadian comfort food, including the famous poutine, open 24/7.

• Riviera – upscale dining in a former bank building, ideal for celebrating post-race with refined Canadian dishes.

Ottawa offers a mix of nature, wellness, and modern sports recovery that makes it an ideal place to recharge after HYROX. With the race held in May, spring is in full bloom — so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to balance your effort on the competition floor with restorative downtime across the city.

Outdoor Recovery Spots

• Rideau Canal Pathways – Just minutes from downtown, this scenic route doubles as a perfect cool-down walk or easy jog. In spring, the canal is lined with greenery and fresh air that’s ideal for flushing out lactic acid.
• Major’s Hill Park – Overlooking the Ottawa River and Parliament Hill, this peaceful green space is a favorite for athletes who want to stretch, breathe, and soak in a uniquely Canadian view.
• Gatineau Park (20 minutes from the venue) – A sprawling natural reserve with trails, lakes, and forests. Ideal for a gentle hike, yoga on the lakeside, or a relaxed paddle if you’re extending your stay.

Wellness & Spa Services

• Nordik Spa-Nature (Chelsea, QC, ~25 minutes drive) – North America’s largest spa, famous for its thermal baths, saunas, and outdoor pools set in the forest. This is the ultimate post-race recovery destination.
• Uppliva Spa & Wellness Retreat (Downtown Ottawa) – Offers saunas, cold plunges, hydrotherapy, and guided relaxation experiences in a serene setting.
• Holtz Spa – A more traditional luxury spa downtown with deep-tissue massages and recovery-focused treatments

Traditional & Cultural Recovery

• Experience the Canadian Nordic-style spa culture, where hot-cold contrast therapy is a staple. The combination of hot saunas, cold plunges, and forest air is both restorative and distinctly local.
• Local yoga studios often blend mindfulness with mobility flows, perfect for recovery. Look out for bilingual classes (English/French) that make them accessible to all visitors.

Modern Sports Recovery Facilities

• BioRecovery Ottawa – Offers cryotherapy, compression therapy, and advanced sports recovery technology tailored for athletes.
• Athletic Therapy Clinics – Several performance centers in the city provide post-race sports massage, chiropractic adjustments, and mobility work for visiting athletes.

Gentle Mobility & Yoga

• Pure Yoga Ottawa – Known for its welcoming atmosphere and varied classes, from restorative yoga to flow sessions designed to unlock tight hips and shoulders.
• PranaShanti Yoga Centre – Offers both gentle and dynamic classes, with an emphasis on recovery and breathwork.

Ottawa’s recovery scene gives HYROX athletes the best of both worlds — immersive outdoor escapes and cutting-edge sports science, all within easy reach of the EY Centre.

Ottawa’s OC Transpo buses and O-Train light rail connect the airport, downtown, and key districts. The EY Centre is best reached by taxi/rideshare in under 10 minutes. Athletes with gear will find Uber and Lyft the easiest option. Day passes for OC Transpo (~$8 USD) make exploring downtown affordable.

Nearest International Airport: Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW), just 3 km from the EY Centre.

Distance to Venue: 5 minutes by car.

Average Travel Time: Minimal — taxis and rideshares are the fastest option.

For international athletes, Ottawa is easily reached by direct flights from major U.S. cities like New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C., or by short road trips across the U.S.–Canada border. Toronto and Montreal airports also provide quick train or car connections for those extending their trip.

Most international athletes will find Ottawa straightforward to enter.

• U.S. citizens: No visa required for short stays. If arriving by air, travelers need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding their flight. Those crossing by land or sea (e.g., road trips from New York or Michigan) do not need an eTA or visa.
• EU, UK, Australia, and many other countries: Require an eTA for air travel to Canada, but not a full visa for short stays under six months.
• Other nationalities: Some may require a visa — check the official Canadian immigration website in advance to confirm.

For HYROX athletes, this means smooth, low-hassle entry whether you’re driving across the U.S. border or flying in from Europe, Asia, or beyond.
