Race spotlight

HYROX Portland makes its debut from 21–23 May 2027, bringing three days of racing to Oregon for the very first time. Hosted at the Oregon Convention Center, this is another significant expansion of the North American calendar into one of the United States' strongest endurance and outdoor fitness markets.

Portland has a deep running, cycling and functional fitness culture, making it a natural fit for HYROX. Late May usually brings comfortable racing conditions, and the convention centre's location beside the Willamette River makes race logistics straightforward for athletes staying downtown.

Racecation Review

Portland offers a different racecation from California or the East Coast. Instead of beaches and skyscrapers, you'll find riverside paths, independent cafés, food trucks, forests and one of America's best outdoor cultures. It's a relaxed city that rewards walking rather than rushing.

The biggest advantage is what sits beyond the finish line. Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Mount Hood and the Oregon Coast are all realistic day trips if you're extending your stay. For athletes wanting a balance of racing and nature, Portland is one of the most appealing additions to the HYROX calendar.

Stay within walking distance of a MAX Light Rail station. Portland's public transport makes getting to the convention centre exceptionally easy without needing a rental car.

Visa guide

Athletes from Visa Waiver Program countries can usually enter the United States for up to 90 days with an approved ESTA before departure. Travellers from countries outside the VWP generally require a B1/B2 visitor visa, so allow plenty of time before booking travel.

Carry details of your accommodation, return flights and event registration if requested by US Customs.

Cost Insights

Portland is generally more affordable than Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles while still offering excellent infrastructure for a major HYROX event. Flights into Portland International Airport are well priced from across North America, and hotel rates are usually reasonable outside peak convention periods. Food is another strength, with everything from healthy cafés to Portland's famous food-cart scene providing excellent value. Public transport is inexpensive and the airport connects directly to downtown via MAX Light Rail, reducing transport costs. Overall, Portland offers one of the better-value major-city racecations in the United States.

Public transport guide

Portland has one of the best public transport systems of any North American HYROX city. The MAX Red Line connects Portland International Airport directly with Downtown and the Oregon Convention Center, making it easy to travel without a rental car.

Once in the city, MAX Light Rail, Portland Streetcar and walking cover most race-week journeys. Athletes staying downtown or in the Lloyd District can comfortably reach the venue on foot or with a short train ride.

Recovery Guide

Portland is built for active recovery. The city's riverside paths, green spaces and mild spring weather make it easy to loosen tired legs without overdoing it after race day.

Sports massage clinics and physiotherapy practices are common throughout downtown and the Pearl District, while many hotels also offer wellness facilities. If you're extending your stay, Forest Park or the Columbia River Gorge provide excellent low-intensity recovery walks in nature.
