Travel Visas for HYROX United States of America
The U.S. allows short-term visa-free entry for athletes from many countries under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). If you’re from a participating country — including most of Europe, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and several others — you can travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days with an approved ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). You must apply for ESTA online before boarding your flight, and your passport must be valid for the entire stay. Keep your HYROX race confirmation and accommodation details available, as U.S. border officers may ask for them upon entry.
If you’re traveling to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), you must apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) before boarding your flight. While some applications are approved within minutes, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security recommends applying at least 72 hours before departure. However, for HYROX athletes, we strongly suggest applying 2–4 weeks in advance in case of delays or if you’re asked for additional documentation.
ESTA approvals are valid for two years (or until your passport expires), so applying early gives you peace of mind — and one less thing to worry about as race day approaches. You’ll need a valid e-passport, a credit card for the $21 USD fee, and details of your accommodation or onward travel. To apply or check your status, visit the official site: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.
If your country is not part of the Visa Waiver Program, you’ll need to apply for a B-2 tourist visa through a U.S. embassy or consulate. The application process may include an interview and can take several weeks, so it’s wise to begin early. Required documents typically include your passport, a DS-160 visa application form, proof of ties to your home country, and your HYROX race and travel details. For full information and country-specific guidance, visit the official U.S. Department of State website. Give yourself enough time — entry to the U.S. can be smooth if your documents are in order.

Boston is a vibrant and historic racecation city—with a price tag to match. Compared to other U.S. cities, it’s on the pricier side, especially when it comes to accommodation and dining. On a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is the most expensive, Boston sits at a solid 4. While the HYROX race will be your biggest ticket item, you’ll also want to budget for a decent hotel, local eats, and maybe a post-race celebration in one of the city’s iconic pubs.
The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center is located in the Seaport District, with excellent hotel options within walking distance. Top choices include the Westin Boston Seaport District and Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport, both just steps from the venue. Boston’s MBTA system (“the T”) is compact and efficient. Red, Green, Blue, and Orange lines cover most of the metro area. Trains run frequently, but service can slow after midnight. Use the CharlieCard for discounts on multiple rides. If your hotel is near the Seaport or Back Bay, the T will get you to the venue with minimal fuss. Walking is also a legit option; Boston is compact, safe, and scenic.
