HYROX Nagoya arrives 16–18 April 2027, bringing the sport to one of Japan’s largest cities for the first time. Hosted at Port Messe Nagoya Exhibition Hall, this marks another major expansion of HYROX’s footprint in Japan following the success of Tokyo, Osaka and Chiba.
The three-day format suggests HYROX expects strong demand across Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Located on Nagoya’s waterfront, Port Messe is a modern exhibition venue built for large-scale international events and is well connected to the city centre. Spring is one of Japan’s most pleasant seasons, making this an attractive racecation for both domestic and international athletes.
Nagoya offers a different side of Japan compared with Tokyo or Osaka. It is cleaner, calmer and generally easier to navigate while still providing excellent food, efficient transport and world-class infrastructure. For HYROX athletes, that translates into a lower-stress race weekend with less congestion and easier logistics.
The city also makes an excellent base for extending your trip. Kyoto is around 35 minutes away by Shinkansen, Osaka about 50 minutes, and Tokyo under two hours. Whether you’re chasing cherry blossom season, Japanese culture or simply another HYROX destination, Nagoya works well as both a race city and a gateway to central Japan.
General note: Port Messe Nagoya is located on Kinjo Pier, approximately 15 km south of central Nagoya. Athletes can either stay close to the venue for race-day simplicity or stay around Nagoya Station where transport, restaurants and sightseeing are strongest.
Best for athletes wanting the shortest commute on race morning.

Nagoya sits in the mid-range tier of HYROX destinations. International flights into Central Japan are generally competitive, particularly from Asia, while domestic transport within Japan is efficient but can become expensive if using the Shinkansen extensively. Hotels are noticeably better value than Tokyo, especially around Nagoya Station, Sakae and Kanayama, while food ranges from inexpensive ramen and rice bowls to excellent premium Japanese dining. Public transport is reliable and affordable, making it easy to travel between the city, Port Messe Nagoya and the airport. Overall, Nagoya offers a very balanced racecation with lower accommodation costs than Tokyo while maintaining Japan’s exceptional quality and convenience.
Most international athletes will arrive via Chubu Centrair International Airport. The Meitetsu Railway provides direct service to central Nagoya, while taxis and airport buses are also available.

Nagoya’s recovery style is clean and uncomplicated. After racing, many athletes will simply enjoy walking around Hisaya Odori Park or the waterfront before finishing the day with quality Japanese food.
For bodywork, the city has numerous sports massage clinics, hotel spas and physiotherapy providers. Japanese massage standards are consistently high, and booking a session after race day is highly recommended.
If extending your stay, consider an onsen visit outside the city or a day trip into the mountains for a slower recovery experience.
